Sustainability and Permaculture
This course will look broadly at the debates around sustainability, locating it within the broader discourse of environmental politics, and then exploring a number of different types of sustainability. These will include food and production sustainability, urban sustainability, energy sustainability, development sustainability, and environmental/ecological sustainability. Each session will include a presentation by a relevant expert, who will give a general background to the topic at hand and the debates within that issue area, as well as outlining where Australia is currently at in Australia in terms of that type of sustainability, and what options exist to improve sustainability. The sessions will be complemented by at least one practical permaculture workshop, which will be run by Permablitz Melbourne, and will explore the basics of permaculture while ‘permablitzing’ a residential garden.
